Our biodynamic dairy farm is comprised of 250 acres of mixed pasture, hay and arable land. Our crew of up to 10 farmers includes villagers, coworkers, and service volunteers, who form a close-knit team working together to meet the needs of the farm and animals.
The majority of the herd are Brown Swiss and Milking Short Horn. We also have young stock ranging from calves to yearlings.
The dairy farm is organically certified and committed to rotational grazing as a management tool for the health and sustainability of the animals and the land. The cattle are all fed solely on diverse pastures from April through November. In the winter months, they are housed closer to the milking barn and are fed hay and baleage, with a small supplement of organic grain for the milk cows in the coldest months. We also work with biodynamic principles and methods, together with the rest of the land association workshops.
Our milk is used by all the Camphill milk drinkers in the area, sold at the local Kimberton Whole Foods stores, bottled for buying clubs, and is used by
neighboring Seven Stars Farm in their yogurt.
